"Fired Earth and I go back a long way to the moment when the founder Nicholas Kneale spied me as a penniless student gazing at his exquisite tiles in the original Fired Earth shop on Clarendon Cross, London. He rather shrewdly identified that I was not in a position to purchase even one of these lovely but pricey items and asked me what I was looking for. A few minutes later I left the shop with all the tiles I could carry for free - a gift from Nicholas to help me with my degree show presentation at The RCA!!

Some years later, I recounted the tale to Beverley Nielsen, the inspirational new Managing Director of Fired Earth Interiors over a martini at the V&A Classic Design Awards party. A rather nice tale she agreed and invited me to visit the new Fired Earth HQ to chat about furniture design.

The result of this chain of events is the new and exclusive collection called 'Square Peg….', made in the magnificent Jura region of the French Alps by a dedicated team of supremely talented craftsmen who still use the traditional joinery technique of 'pegging' panels of solid oak together.

Inspired by the ethos and manufacturing traditions of the English Arts&Crafts movement and with appropriate homage to William Morris, I genuinely believe that this collection stands comparison with the very best quality natural wood furniture in the world.
